Here’s a group of photos that Laszlo & Gisella of Bed & Biscuit (S. Van Dorn Road, Ithaca, NY) took. Toka goes to day care there on Thursdays, and has a blast.
Everyone who works there is patient, caring, and generous with their time and attention. Toka fusses a bit when we turn onto their road, knowing that he’ll spend the day playing & napping.
While a few people in my circle are not proponents of doggie day care, in my opinion, going once a week has helped Toka improve his dog communication skills. Because Kiyo was lame, they were kept separate, and he was a bit of a butt-head when it came to communicating with other dogs.
Now he’s got some dog manners, and gets to run around like crazy, blowing off steam & getting a lot of exercise. I get a *ton* of work done, and Kiyo enjoys time alone with me. A win-win situation for all involved.
When we’re away, we generally hire a dog sitter to stay with the pups. I’d happily board Toka at B&B – two thumbs up!
Judicious use of professionally, intelligently run doggy day care can be beneficial for dog and handler.
